School Governor Profiles

Honorary Life President - Keith Carmichael CBE

Keith was a Governor at RMS for 46 years and served as Chairman for 25 years. He is a Fellow of the ICAEW and CIOT, Member of the SSBV, Freeman of the City of London and retired member of Monopolies & Mergers Commission. Keith practised as a Chartered Accountant and spent 40 years lecturing in the UK and overseas. He was honoured by the Queen as a Commander of the Most Excellent order of the British Empire and as a Commander of the Venerable Order of St John  of Jerusalem. His astute business brain was invaluable in helping to bring the school to the sound financial basis it now enjoys.

Chairman - John Gould

John, although semi-retired, is a Consultant at Gould and Company, Chartered Surveyors, which he founded and of which he was senior partner for 35 years. He has wide experience of procurement of building services, project management and strategic planning relating to property portfolios. He has acted for numerous charities and has extensive knowledge of Charity law in relation to property matters. He has actively supported several voluntary organisations and is currently Chairman of Trustees of a sheltered housing charity. His interests include music and sport

Sean Brew

Sean is a Chartered Surveyor with over 25 years experience working in the commercial property sector and holds a Masters in Business Administration.

Sean runs the London business at a national real estate company, Lambert Smith Hampton, having previously held senior positions at DTZ (now Cushman & Wakefield.) Sean specialises in providing Property & Asset Management advice to a range of financial institutions and property companies across the UK.

He is also currently a Non Executive Director of a not for profit charity, Forward Housing, which helps provide accommodation for people suffering with disabilities.

Sean lives locally and his daughter attends the school He is a very keen sportsman with a particular passion for golf, cycling, rugby and football!

John Brewer

John is Professor of Applied Sports Science and Head of the School of Sport, Health and Applied Science at St Mary's University Twickenham.  Previously he held roles at the University of Bedfordshire, was Director of Sports Science at GlaxoSmithKline, and ran his own sports science and sports injury business at Lilleshall National Sports Centre in Shropshire.  He has published many papers and books and regularly features in the media giving comments on areas related to sport and health.  He is currently Chair of British Ski and Snowboard, and a Board Member of UK Anti-Doping.  He has held a number of consultancy roles, most notably for the Home Office.   He is a keen runner, having completed the London Marathon on 16 occasions, and wrote the Official Training Guide to Track Athletics for the London 2012 Olympic Games. John is married with two daughters that are both former pupils of RMS.

Peta Dyke

Peta started her successful teaching career in 1976. Since 2003, she has been headteacher of a primary school in Rickmansworth, as well as working as a School Improvement Partner for Bath and North East Somerset Council for several years.  Peta has always enjoyed serving on a school governing body and has been a governor of many schools over the last 25 years. In addition, Peta is an OFSTED inspector of schools and also works as an education consultant. As a result of all of this she has extensive knowledge of education and the school inspection system. 

David Ellis OBE

David was an active parent when his two daughters attended RMS and he has remained committed to working closely with the School. He is a retired Senior Civil Servant, with extensive experience in the charity sector. In 1993 he was admitted as a member of the CMI and in 2001 he was awarded an OBE. David serves on a number of committees of other charitable organisations and companies, notably Peace Hospice Care which is a charity close to the School’s heart. His particular skills are Strategic Leadership and Management, Finance, HR & Charity Law & Regulations and he is currently Chairman of the Remuneration and Personnel Sub-committee.

Keith Emmerson

Keith is a retired Detective Chief Superintendent. He is currently Deputy Chairman of the RMTGB and Chairman of their Petitions Committee. During his career he developed skills in crime and criminal investigative issues along with committee work, financial budgeting, man-management , skills awareness and use of performance indicators. His professional experience and community service enables him to fulfil the role of Governor at RMS at which he is currently Chairman of the Premises Committee.

James Flecker

James previously worked in the Independent education sector as Assistant Teacher, Housemaster and was Headmaster for 18 years at a co-educational boarding and day school. He was closely involved with all governance and management matters, along with teaching and extra-curricular activities. Since retiring in 1998, James has been working in London with various charities. These experiences have equipped him to understand the charitable side of schools and he is a member of the Academic Sub-Committee. 

Abigail Gray

Abigail was Head Girl at RMS in 1995 and went onto Southampton University to study for an Engineering Degree. She spent a year in Australia working in a boarding school as a Classroom Assistant and worked in Belgium for three years as a Manufacturing Engineer. Abigail has since worked as a Manager in Waitrose stores, in Customer Service training and more recently on development projects. She is currently studying for a Foundation Degree in Counselling. For several years she has assisted the Headmistress in selecting Senior Prefects, and is a member of the Pastoral Sub-Committee.

Fiona Richards

Fiona is a Managing Director and a Head of Change at Deutsche Bank within Technology and Operations.

Previously she has held roles at Deloitte where she was a Tax Partner, at BP as Head of Tax Technology, and has over 20 years of significant programme management experience leading programmes in various domains including finance transformation, ERP implementation, regulatory and process improvement, after having started her career at HMRC as a VAT specialist. Fiona is originally from Liverpool and graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with a BA (hons) Applied Human Communication.

Fiona is married, and is an active parent with a daughter at Cadogan house. She also acts as a professional business mentor. She has been a keen runner and outdoor sports enthusiast over the years having completed 3 marathons and many half marathons, although largely retired from much of this due to injury

Simon Staite

Simon is a senior partner at City law firm Nabarro LLP ,which is widely acknowledged for its expertise providing advice in relation to commercial property investment and development for both U.K. and foreign investors .

In recent years he has been focussing on business development in China and has visited China on a number of occasions 

As well as having had a number of management roles at the firm, he is a trusted adviser to a number of Nabarro's most important clients who look to him for legal and strategic advice on their projects, where he is able to bring his experience to issues that have arisen or might be likely to arise

He is a keen road cyclist, walker and golfer and parent of three children two of whom are still in education

Christine Stephens

She has over 38 years HR experience in both the private telecommunications sector and within national charities. Her skills cover management training, both in terms of design and delivery, facilitation, career counselling and executive development Christine holds an advanced diploma in personal coaching and is also a trustee at Peace Hospice Care.

Mike Woodcock

Dr Mike Woodcock is a lifetime entrepreneur, founder and Chairman of several UK Companies and the proprietor of Farming and Forestry Estates.  Author / co-author of over 20 books on leadership, management and organisational development published in many languages, he has consulted and presented at conferences and seminars worldwide.  He is president and Chairman of Counsel of the Royal Masonic Trust for Girls and Boys, Freemasonry’s oldest charity and Chairman of Trustees of Lifelites, a charity which provides specialist education and entertainment technology to every children’s hospice in the UK.  He was formerly a Member of Parliament and of the Trade & Industry and Home Affairs Select Committees, Visiting Professor at the University of Lancaster and Visiting Fellow at Leeds Metropolitan University.

David Yeaman

David has brought to the Board a wealth of experience from the architectural sector. Following graduation from Leeds School of Architecture he started his career with Wakefield Housing Department, before moving onto somewhat more glamorous projects such as the airport and university design in Shiraz. He is now the proprietor of his own architectural practice. David is a Freemason and a member of the Rotary Club, and has given freely of his time working on Committees of schools, hospitals and churches where he has offered advice on their property redevelopment needs and assisted with their fund raising projects. He keeps fit by walking (including Hadrian’s Wall – twice!) and swimming. 

The Royal Masonic is an outstanding school, giving girls like our daughter, who have not always been viewed as 'academic', an opportunity to reach their potential. Under your care our daughter has blossomed into a young lady who takes responsibility for herself, cares about others and works long and hard to achieve her best, we have always wanted both our girls to be happy and enjoy education and you and your staff have helped us achieve that Parent
