International Charity - Atorkor, Ghana
Charity has always been integral to RMS life, and we have a long established link with The Atorkor Development Foundation (ADF), a community based charitable organisation in the UK (charity no. 1120603). The Foundation supports a school in Ghana where we fund the education of six girls. Each year, a number of our pupils travel to Ghana to work at the School, and see how the money that they raise throughout the year is used.
We have run three very successful trips to Atorkor in recent years, with girls from Years 11-13 taking part in a cultural exchange. The girls have had the chance to participate in volunteer work and contribute to this developing project. Work has included a variety of activities, such as running a holiday club for the village children, working in the Medical Centre and contributing to a variety of village-run projects.
Our July 2016 trip was especially exciting for RMS as it included the dedication and opening of the new nursery building that has been paid for by our girls' fundraising efforts in school, and by donations from partnerships we have forged.
