Rewards and Sanctions

Standards of behaviour at RMS are very high. We expect the best of our girls and we attach great importance to courtesy and good manners. Girls are expected to show respect for the privileged and beautiful environment in which they live and work. We recognise and reward behaviour which explicitly and overtly reflects the values for which RMS stands. Positive rewards reinforce our high standards, and negative sanctions are rarely required.

Praise is given by appreciating and valuing the efforts made and success achieved by each pupil. Achievement is recognised at all levels, both informally on a day to day basis, and by the formal award of Alphas and certificates. An Alpha may be awarded for:

  • A very good or outstanding piece of individual work/performance/contribution
  • Consistently good work over a period of time
  • Significant improvement in work/effort/performance/contribution
  • Significant achievement
  • My Learning, for demonstrating achievement in one of the 4Rs (Resourcefulness, Resilience, Reciprocity, Reflection)

The School also awards Values Alphas, and girls can achieve these by displaying qualities that reflect the School’s core values of Respect, Perseverance, Responsibility, Honesty, Compassion, Tolerance, Commitment, Participation, and the Courage to challenge themselves.

Girls in Years  10 and 11 have the opportunity to earn an Ashlar, the “polished cornerstone” which is the traditional and valued award given to girls in recognition of their hard work and contribution to School life. For girls to be awarded the Ashlar, they must demonstrate high standards of

  • Respect for others
  • Participation
  • Self-discipline
  • Self-respect

You can read more about the Ashlar in Our History in the About Us section.

Academic standards are well maintained but equally as important is each child's personal development which this school takes very seriously. They do not just 'talk the talk' they also deliver observable results. The girls at this school are happy girls, many smiling faces. Education is enjoyable here. Parent
